Muscle Person Pinky Promise Red Pinky Promise Black For my small kite, I went for the connection   theme. In my kite, it shows six hands, in three rows and two in each row. It shows the two hands coming together in a “pinky promise” and then to “sealed it with a kiss/sealed it with a stamp”. At the hands’ wrists, you can see lines and swirls coming out, I made those to represent the red string of faith.   I first thought of “pinky promise”, because in most of our childhoods when we had a connection with someone and trusted someone, we would promise each other with a pinky promise. It is a reference to a more innocent time.  I got the “sealed it with a kiss/sealed it with a stamp” was when I used to watch Japanese animations and watching other Asian dramas where the phrase came up a lot. For me, butterflies represent endurance over obstacles and the transformation that takes place once you’ve overcome something. Butterflies are very important to me, because I have overcome a lot of obstacles throughout my college experience. There were many times where I could've given up but I chose to spread my wings and fly away from all hardships, negativity, doubt, and more. For this reason, butterflies have become a symbol that is very special to me personally. Joshua Bigham Kite Inspiration When I started this kite project, as a photographer, I knew that I wanted to utilize a photographic process in the actual printing.  I eventually settled on the alternative photo process of cyanotype.     Before I get to the design part of the project, I feel it is necessary to explain the cyanotype process and explain why I chose it.  The cyanotype process was invented in 1842 by Sir John Herschel. He discovered this process while experimenting with light sensitive materials that were non silver based. The chemistry for cyanotypes utilizes a mixture of two solutions, Part A, made up of Ferric Ammonium Citrate mixed with distilled water, and Part B, Potassium Ferricyanide, also mixed with distilled water. Kat Tayar Large Kite Kat Tayar Small kite    Kite Description  My large kite and one of my small kites were identical in design. I wanted my design to bring forth the similarities between the States and the UAE. To represent a living bond that grows day by day. Both depicted Two skylines of cities surrounding a golden-brown medallion that contains flowers and bees connected by strings. I wanted the cities to mirror each other in an attempt to show the similarities between our two homes. Each skyline is painted with a gray scheme to push these back, giving distance between the cities. I wanted the cities to be far from each other on opposite sides since we sit so far away from each other. The gray is also a neutral color amongst the bright blue of the sky, allowing the blue to pop. A fresh and bright blue sky filled with fluffy white clouds has a feeling of calm peace. United Hands Connecting Circles The essential theme for this class and the main project is the idea of being connected.  Both of my kite designs  had something to do with the connectedness of the UAE and the United States .  With my larger kite, I wanted to depict two hands holding the national flowers of the US and   UAE,  which   is  the Rose and the  Tribulus   Omanens e . The UAE’s national flower can be used for medicinal  purposes.   The color of the Tribulus  is believed  to be  the color of friendship and the second reason which is related to the first one is that the flower is available in only one color that is yellow, so for them,  it is the sign of equality and brotherhood .    The United States national flowe r being the Rose  represents  life, love, d evotion and eternity .  By doing this  I wanted to have that image to depict  the connectedness ...
